FAQ's
Here's some answers to some frequently asked questions about trying or getting involved in our sport.
Do I need a firearms licence to give the sport a try?
No. Not initially - subject to Club approval after you complete a Police declaration form, which will be provided to you when you visit.
If you decide to become a member, our Clubs can help with the process to acquire a full licence.
What age are participants?
Minimum age is 12 years, provided a parent or guardian signs all required documentation and supervises until the participant is 18. Our members currently range from high school age to ‘super-veteran’ age and everything in between.
What days do you shoot / when are you open?
That depends on the Club and their range approvals. Some club shoot Saturdays, some Sundays and others may have other days they can open. You can make an appointment to visit or ‘have a go’ at a time to suit your chosen Club.
What does it cost to participate?
The Club will advise their costs, but generally you'll need to pay the club and / or range fee plus the cost of ammunition.
If you wish to join, you will pay the Club's annual membership, any District Assocation membership plus the NSWRA membership which includes our National affiliation, covering required insurances.
Do I need to provide my own rifle and equipment?
Not initially. Most Clubs have equipment that you can use to try the sport and get started.
If you join, Club Members can help point you in the right direction to acquire your own equipment over time.
What type of rifles are used over what distances?
